Jilly Cooper - 1937-2025
We were so touched to receive the support of Jilly Cooper when she sent us a book (now sold) via our supporter, Judy. Whittingham's Manager, Louise, had the honour of meeting Jilly Cooper in a previous role at a charity and said, "what a lovely lady she is - always so warm and supportive; and a huge greyhound lover (greyhounds are the favoured dog of some of her most well known characters in her books). We are so touched that she has written a card to send her "love to all the greyhounds and team at Whittingham" and for her kindness in supporting our endeavour to home greyhounds".
The photo is a memory of the meeting with Jilly Cooper several years ago when Jilly Cooper was holding her own original greyhound, Feather, along with Louise's original and first greyhound, Storm.

Update: Following the very sad news of Jilly Cooper's death, we are so proud to have had her as one of our supporters. We send her family and friends our condolences. She was a lovely person and a great ambassador for greyhounds.
Mark Smith - Antiques Roadshow Medals Expert
We are so delighted that the BBC's Antiques Roadshow's Medals expert, Mark Smith, has given a statement in support of Whittingham's work. We were delighted to meet him at a recording of the show... and then upon reading his book, realised the connection. He always presents the stories of the medals and the people behind them with such passion and it was lovely to speak with him about it.
Mark's book, "Medal Man: Dad, Me and The Second World War" is a thoroughly good read and highly recommended. It is a moving and fascinating read which leaves a lasting impact. We are so grateful for his kindness.
Mark said: "I was approached by Louise and the team from Whittingham Kennels after Louise realised we had both attended the same school: Forest School, near Snaresbrook. We had met briefly when they visited the Antiques Roadshow to observe filming and had we known we shared a common background and passion for dogs, we could have spoken about it at the time. As one Old Forester to another, I am pleased to add my voice to supporting the charity in its efforts to place dogs into loving homes. I don't have greyhounds myself but as a fellow dog lover, I am glad to support a cause which is determined to find dogs loving homes. We also discovered that we had another link through Blenheim Road in Walthamstow where both our families lived a few doors from each other and where one of the adopted greyhounds found a home a few years ago. I wish Whittingham all the best in its work"

Ron

"These magnificent animals deserve a loving home and make perfect pets.I was lucky enough to come across Whittingham Kennels in 2007 when I adopted my first greyhound, an incredible dog called Ron.
In 2016, after Ron had passed, I adopted Lobby or Peter as I came to call him.
Both dogs were incredibly sweet natured, gentle souls who made wonderful companions after their racing careers had ended.
Ron was known as the Chelsea Therapist by all who knew him as he had such a calming influence on any dog or human in his presence.
Peter was an absolute softie who adored cuddles and was very fond of his toys and his special spot in the garden where he would love to snooze away the day".

Best known for appearing in "Big Nothing", "Wonder Woman 1984", "Woman in Gold" and recently "Doctor Who".
"Once you have adopted a greyhound, you'll be hooked for life! So think carefully before adopting a greyhound!!
Slender, beautiful, loving, noble, playful, mischievous, gentle and persuasive.
An exquisite combination of spirited and serene. They can prance like deer, run like cheetahs, stalk like lions - squirrels beware!
I speak from the experience of having had three greyhounds as pets over the past 20 years. And they've all been a joy.
Like any dog, they can be challenging and the ride may not always be smooth. But the rewards are sheer bliss".

Nancy was adopted from Whittingham Kennels and adopting Nancy was, to quote, Fi, "One of the best things we have ever done"!
Nancy lives with a cat and children and is a great ambassador for greyhound adoption.
